Spruce it up!

It’s that time of year again—February—when suddenly our cozy homes feel drab and in dire need of a refresh. If we’re lucky, we’ve already planned for it and scheduled the painter or have a renovation underway, but for most of us, that is not the case. Sprucing up your living space doesn’t have to be a daunting task involving major renovations or breaking the bank. With a touch of creativity and a sprinkle of imagination, you can easily breathe new life into your home decor. So, let’s dive into seven effortless and lighthearted ways to liven up your living space:

An open large and wide interior front door hallway foyer with transom, hanging light fixture, coastal colors and entry way table and wood floors.

Shop Your Home: You don’t have to rearrange your sofas and chairs to create a new look, but try restyling your entryway with lamps and artwork pulled from other spaces in your home or that spot in the basement where you tossed your old decor when you brought home your new finds. It’s surprising how fresh things look when you haven’t seen them for a while.

Pillow Party: If your throw pillows are looking flat, take out the inserts and give them a fluff, and wash (or dry-clean) the covers. If they are beyond that, then it’s time to replace them. Our favorite resources for pillows are Land of Pillows and SWD Studio.

Light It Up: First, check your bulbs. I’m not kidding. Make sure all the bulbs are functioning in multi-bulb fixtures and that the bulb isn’t casting too blue of a light. Most “daylight” bulbs are too cool; the best light temperature for home interiors is between 2700 and 3200. If it’s time for new lamps, you can, of course, go to HomeGoods, but as I mentioned in a previous post (here), HG is an inconsistent source. Amazon is a surprisingly good source for lamps.  Click here to see our favorites.

Gallery Wall: Use your existing art and photos to create something new—a statement gallery wall. Add some new frames to tie your photos and art together. If gallery walls aren’t your thing, a new piece of art will perk up your space and give you something new to admire. We have added an art shop of some of our favorite pieces.

Green Thumb Magic: Bring the outdoors in by adding some leafy friends to your home decor. Houseplants not only add a pop of color and texture to any room but also purify the air and promote a sense of well-being. Don’t worry if you don’t have a green thumb—there are plenty of low-maintenance plant options that thrive even with minimal care. So go ahead, channel your inner plant parent and let your indoor jungle flourish!

Mirror, Mirror: Mirrors are like magic wands for your home decor—they instantly make any space feel brighter, bigger, and more glamorous. Hang a statement mirror above your mantle or in your entryway to create a focal point and bounce light around the room. You can also lean a large mirror against the wall for a more relaxed and casual vibe. Bonus points if you find a mirror with a funky frame that adds a touch of whimsy to your decor!

Bedding Bliss: Treat yourself to a new set of sheets. Whether you prefer crisp white linens for a hotel-chic look, vibrant colors for a bold statement, or soft pastels for a serene ambiance, investing in new bedding can instantly reinvigorate the look and feel of your bedroom. Add a quilt in a complementary pattern or texture to add layers of visual interest to your bed.

With these simple and fun tips, you can easily give your home decor the boost it needs to feel fresh and inviting. So roll up your sleeves, unleash your creativity, and get ready to spruce it up!
